Firstly, may I welcome all club members to this new season.
We especially welcome many players from Balbardie Club who were so shamefully treated by their landlord (a position that we may well have found our club in had we not taken the difficult decisions in 2020).
We also wish to welcome the large number of people from West End and Springboig Bowling Clubs.
Your club is in good shape !
For the weekend bowling sessions, the bar and kitchen are all subsidised by the club. It costs the club in excess of £80 to open for four hours on these days, so please consider using the facility to allow us to cover these costs.
Membership
The present position is positive after several years of declining membership, with numbers up on last year. So far we have recruited 64 new members, however, we have 45 members who have not returned this season.
Competitions
The membership increase has seen an upsurge in people entering competitions. I would urge members to think seriously about supporting the the club by playing in the many and varied events. You can choose from Pairs, Four Bowl Pairs, Triples and Rinks for seniors, members and ladies.
The present position is as follows:-
Morning - Senior Gents
Monday - 16 teams (full rinks)
Tuesday - 16 teams (full rinks)
Wednesday - 8 teams (full rinks) - number of rinks available reduced because of team games
Thursday - 16 teams (full rinks)
Friday - Open play and several rinks still available - just turn up and play
Afternoon - Ladies
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday - there are vacancies on all days
Thursday afternoon
No organised games
Evenings
Monday - Indoor/Outdoor League - 14 teams - room for 2 more teams
Tuesday - Mixed Triples - 15 teams - we need another team to prevent stand downs
Wednesday - National Rinks - 11 teams - we need another team to prevent stand downs
Thursday - Four Bowl Pairs - 16 teams - full rinks
Friday - National Rinks - 10 teams - room for more teams
The club of course is open all day for members and non-members to pay and play
Substitutes
The position regarding substitutes is causing concern amongst members, with the committee receiving several comments. These comments which included teams attempting to play shorthanded instead of taking a substitute, and other teams approaching individuals prior to the start of play to take on the role of substitute, without going through the correct procedures. These actions are not compatible with the present bye laws and against the spirit of the game.
I have therefore had the present bye laws promulgated throughout the building to ensure all members are aware of the correct procedures for requesting a substitute. I have asked the treasurer to investigate the possibility of supplying a copy of the consitution and bye laws in booklet form. This of course will depend on the financial position.
Disputes
You will note that in the main all disputes/rulings will be forwarded to the Board for determination. In exceptional circumstances where a decision has to be resolved immediately, the match secretary will provide a ruling in line with the club's constitution, bye laws and the rules of the SIBA that have been adopted.
